Dear Member,

We know how important reliable power is to you, and we want to explain the reason behind some of the recent unexpected outages in the Mossy Head area.

CHELCO is currently adding a new feeder on the Mossy Head substation to strengthen the electric system and prepare for future growth in homes and businesses. These upgrades will improve reliability in the long run, but they do come with some short-term challenges.

To keep our crews safe while working on energized lines, we place an additional safety precaution called a Hot Line Tag on the associated substation breaker. A Hot Line Tag is designed to shut off power immediately, well before a situation could pose a greater risk to our lineworkers.

What does this mean for you?
When a Hot Line Tag is in place, even a small disturbance on the line—such as a tree limb brushing the circuit—can cause your power to go out. Normally, these types of events wouldn’t cause an outage, and we rarely experience interruptions that aren’t scheduled and communicated in advance. However, while this safety measure is active, you may notice more unexpected outages than usual.

We understand this can be frustrating, but please know these measures are temporary and necessary to protect our crews as they complete the upgrades. Once the work is finished, you’ll benefit from a more reliable system that supports the area’s growth for years to come.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve your service. If you have any questions, please contact us at 850-892-2111 or visit our website at https://www.chelco.com/

Sincerely,
Your CHELCO Team
